“Big Island Watersports is a true family-owned business that embraces and has been embraced by Hawaii. Our goal is to share our love for the ocean and its inhabitants by offering top notch experiences, cutting-edge equipment, and superb customer service.” — Major Heitz and John Swanson
Marc Heitz’s desire to have his family relocate and join him on Hawaii’s beautiful Big Island was realized when he bought a floating platform that sat 1/2 mile off shore of Kailua Bay, and then also bought Big Island Divers, both in Kailua-Kona. Marc’s plan worked: the lure of running a fun, action-oriented premier water activity company in Hawaii’s’s most gorgeous playground was too hard to resist, and soon Marc’s son Major Heitz, and son-in-law John Swanson, joined him.
Major brought with him the love of his life, Claire, whom he met when he was a scuba instructor on Maui. John and his wife Kylie (Marc’s daughter) packed up and moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma to the Big Island in less than a month, and are now expecting their first child.
In July 2015, they relaunched the platform as “Big Island Watersports”, and it’s now a hugely popular Big Island attraction. Nowhere else in Hawaii will you find such diverse offerings: adrenaline-fueled rides on the only Jet Skis and Jetovators on the Big Island; exploration of breathtaking coral reefs while SNUBA diving or snorkeling; kayaking and stand-up-paddle boarding alongside dolphins and other marine life, and being face-to-face with the World Famous Kona Manta Rays, all from Big Island Watersports’s private viewing platform. The recently added Saturday morning Yoga on the Water class lets guests take in the tranquility of the ocean waves and breezes. Combined with the unique dives and experiences offered by Big Island Divers, Major and John are living a dream that they didn’t know they had.
